"Busy Yard Samplers" have been documented by both Gloria Seaman Allen in A Maryland Sampling: Girlhood Embroidery 1738-1860 (p. 211) and Betty Ring in Girlhood Embroidery: American Samplers & Pictorial Needelwork 1750-1850. These large, superbly worked samplers depict fine buildings and elaborate lawn scenes populated with female figures, animals and outbuildings.
